Walks in January 2026

January 5th

An icy morning greeted the group for the first walk of the year. Roger and Ann led us around a snowy Langold Lake,  Dyscarr Wood and out to Letwell. It was nice to blow the cobwebs away and burn a few mince pies off

Starting at Kilton Forest carpark  Catherine led twelve of  us on a circuit to Hundred Acre Wood. A lovely walk through the woods, but it was a bit of an obstacle course in places. We even encountered an adventurous toad on the walk.

Starting at Poulter Country Park at Nether Langwith Roger took us down an old railway line which is now called the Archaeological Trai. However the recent rain soon provided our first obstacle when we found the path through a wood completely flooded. We diverted around but then found the old railway cutting we needed to cross flooded too. Another diversion was followed by waterlogged field, followed by more mud on a farm track called William Wood Lane. We returned through Cuckney Hay Wood to Nether Langwith.

Walkers on a country lane

January 26th

Graham took a group thirteen on walk around Norwood. Starting at Kiveton Water we followed the Cuckoo Way  in to Wales. We crossed the motorway to make our way down to the remnants of the Norwood locks on the Chesterfield Canal. From there we walked through Nor Wood to have a break at the top of the hill in a newly built church built near Gannow Hill. We walked past the fishing ponds and then back up to cross under the motorway at Woodall before returning to Kiveton Water via Walseker Lane. Another muddy day, but it is January so what do we expect.
