The Natural History Group visited RSPB Old Moor nature reserve on Friday 21st March 2025. Eleven member attended and the weather was very kind to us. I enjoyed the outing, it was nice to be out with good company and to see plenty of water fowl and terrestrial birds.
Here is a list of what we saw and a few of archive photos to illustrate some of them.
Starting with the water fowl: Teal, 3 Whooper Swans, lots of Shoveller ducks, Pochard, Tufted Ducks, lots of Wigeon, 2 Shelduck, lots of Gadwall plus numerous Mallard and Coot
We also saw Black-Headed Gulls and Lesser-Black Backed Gulls together with a Little Egret, and 30+ Cormorants.
Of the birds we saw 3 male Reed Bunting, lots of Goldfinch, Chaffinch, A lovely pair of Bullfinch, Long tailed Tits, Blue tits, Great Tits & Chiff Chaff.
The photos are as follows Drake Teal, drake Pochard, Shelduck, a group of widgeon, and a pair of Gadwall, the drake is on the right.
If only all our outings could be as productive.
