We have introduced the option to Gift Aid your membership subs from March 2023. If you are able to do this it means every £1 of membership is worth £1.25 to us as we can reclaim the income tax you have paid.
Do I have to Gift Aid my membership subs?
No, it is entirely voluntary and does not affect your membership status with the u3a
Can every member Gift Aid their membership subs?
No, only those who are UK taxpayers
I pay tax but my spouse does not, can I pay their subs and Gift Aid their subs too?
No, you can only Gift Aid your own subs.
I pay my subs in cash or by cheque how do I make a declaration?
Print off the email or letter you have been sent. Tick the appropriate box of the email or letter which states whether you wish to Gift Aid or not. Send the email or letter with your renewal cheque to the Membership Secretary, or bring the cheque or cash to the Monthly meeting.
If two people live at the same address please bring both emails or letters. Gift Aid aside, the letters help the Membership Secretary reconcile the money with the members details.
I wish to pay by BACs how do I make the declaration?
If you wish to Gift Aid your subs, print the email or letter, make the declaration and send it to the Membership Secretary. Obviously if you do not wish to, or are unable to Gift Aid you need do nothing.
How does it work through the On-line Portal?
I am the only member at my address
When you log on you will be asked to make a Gift Aid declaration to enable Gift Aid or not. You must tick one of the two boxes and then can proceed to pay your subs.
We are a couple at the same address and neither of us pay UK tax
When you log on to the online portal you will be offered the Gift Aid declaration. You must tick the option not to Gift Aid your subs then proceed. You can pay for both members at the same time.
We are a couple at the same address and only one of us pays UK tax
- If the tax payer partner wishes to Gift Aid their subs they should log on, tick the option to Gift Aid their subs, and they can then proceed to pay both partners subs. The declaration is personal to the tax payer partner.
- If the tax payer does not wish to Gift Aid theirs subs, it does not matter who logs on. Either partner can tick the option not to Gift aid their subs, and then proceed to pay both set of fees
We are a couple at the same address and both are UK tax payers
- If both partners wish to Gift Aid their subs, because the declaration is personal to the member, they must log on separately, make their Gift Aid declaration and pay their subs individually.
- If one partner wishes to Gift Aid their subs and not the other, that person can log on make the declaration for themselves and pay both subs together.
- If neither wishes to Gift Aid their subs, either partner can log on, tick the declaration to that effect, and pay both subs together.
