What is the u3a

Our motto is LEARN, LAUGH, LIVE and we believe that the third age should be one of creativity, fulfilment and friendship. Our u3a aims to provide that opportunity for retired and semi retired people in and around Worksop.
We have over 30 interest groups that are sporty or active, creative, musical and social and we are always looking to expand the groups on offer. We organise trips and outings and hold a monthly general meeting with a wide variety of speakers.
Worksop and District u3a was formed in 2009. The UK u3a movement (based loosely on the French model) was founded in 1982 and aims to encourage groups of people no longer in full-time work to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning subjects of interest to them.

PS: Third age?
One in four of the population is in their third age. The first age refers to childhood and dependence, the second age to full-time employment and parental responsibilities and the third age is that which follows where one is retired, or partially retired.
Originally u3a stood for 'University of the Third Age' but was not a university in a formal sense We welcome members from all backgrounds because we are all graduates of the university of life! Now we just call it the u3a.
Our charitable purpose is:
The advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those retired from full time work, by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development.
