RSPB Fairburn Ings - July 2026

The Natural History group went to Fairburn Ings on 17 July. Following the recent heatwaves, the weather was dry and cooler, but the water level was down and there was less bird activity on the lakes.

We saw Black headed Gulls, Mute Swans. Coots, both Canada and Grey Lag Geese, Mallard and Gadwall Ducks, adult & juvenile Cormorants, Great Crested Grebe and chicks, and Moorhens. We also saw Long Tailed Tits, Juvenile Great Tits, Reed Warblers, 1 Great White Egret, Emperor Dragonfly and Gatekeeper Butterflies, also known as Hedge Brown. There were some lovely Honeysuckle bushes and Teasels with Common Carder Bees, Hoverflies and Bumble Bees in attendance.

Members of the group took great photos!
